Church, this week we begin our new series, “Creating a Culture of Generosity” . Generosity comes from the word generous and according to Webster's Dictionary is:
- characterized by a noble or kindly spirit : magnanimous, kindly a generous heart
- liberal in giving : openhanded a generous benefactor
- marked by abundance or ample proportions
This week we are going to look at God’s generosity towards us as seen in Jesus. We have to get a handle on God’s generosity towards us before we can be generous to others. We all want to be recipients of other's generosity. This Sunday we are going to examine how we can be generous to others.
Here is a calendar update! Next Wednesday is “Ash Wednesday” February 14th. This day is the beginning of Lent which runs through March 31st, the day before Easter, April 1st. We will have a service on Ash Wednesday from 12:15-1:00 p.m.
Lent is a 40-day season of preparation for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Lent is a call to share in the suffering love of Jesus, especially by giving up sin and sinful attitudes and walking in the path of love and service. The season begins with Ash Wednesday, when ash is smeared on the foreheads of Christians as a reminder of our humanity; we are created from dust and to dust we shall return.
This Sunday will be a great preparation for lent as we focus on all God has done for us in sending Jesus. As we approach Esther we have so much to be thankful for!
A great resource to read every day is a short book from John Piper that you can download here and read one chapter a day for 50 days (the chapters are very short). Begin this Sunday February 11th and you will end on Sunday morning April 1st.
Church, I love making an eternal difference together as we follow Jesus. See you Sunday!
In God’s Grip and for God’s Glory,
