Awana Basics

What time is Awana?

Our AWANA programs take place every Wednesday evening in the Fellowship Center.

Check-in begins at 6:15pm.
Club meets each Wednesday night at 6:30pm sharp and ends at 8:00pm.
Cubbies ends at 7:45pm.
(Please do not drop your children off before 6:15pm)

Who are the Awana Leaders?

Cubbies: Jeff and Rhonda Clem
Sparks: Shelly Yarbrough & Karen Escobedo
T & T: Kim and Connie Fast

Drop off and Pick-up

We know it is tempting, but please come inside the building and check-in your child each night. Sparks can be picked up in their assigned classrooms directly following Awards Time. You are invited to join us at 7:55pm to see your child receive their awards and to help us celebrate. Cubbies must be signed in and out of their classroom by a parent.

What is the cost?

There is a fifteen dollar registration fee ($30 maximum per family) which covers the cost of your child’s first book and awards. Replacement books may be purchased for five dollars. Your child is also being asked to bring dues of 25 cents per week (or seven dollars for the entire year) this will help cover the cost of our AWANA store. Uniforms may be purchased after your child has passed his/her entrance booklet.

What do kids do at Awana?

The club meeting is divided into three segments: Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time. During game time, kids have fun, get exercise, and learn good sportsmanship. During Handbook Time, the children progress through age-appropriate handbooks by memorizing and demonstrating an understanding of Bible scriptures. The main feature of Council Time is a Bible lesson and prayer, but it also includes presentation of awards and singing.

What does the word “Awana” mean?

It is an acronym for “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” and is taken from 2 Timothy 2:15, which states, “Work hard so God can approve you. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” This is exactly what we want to see accomplished in the lives of our children here at Mountain View.

Awana Handbooks

Grades K-6th

Your child will receive an entrance booklet consisting of six or seven sections that teach basic Bible truths and introduce kids and parents to Awana. Upon completion of the entrance booklet, their uniform may be purchased. An order form will be sent home when your child completes their entrance booklet.

Each child works at their own pace in the handbook. Children are encouraged to recite their verses to parents and then come prepared to club to recite them to their leader. As an incentive, your child will earn extra credit for each section they complete with you at home. Place you initials on the leader signature line and they’ll receive an extra share. Please help pace your children so that they complete the handbook by the end of the club year.

Miscellaneous

Lost & Found

Please place names on books, uniforms, bags and jackets; it really helps us get your children’s items back to them. Lost uniforms or books may be replaced at cost.

Shoes

Please make sure that your children come to Awana wearing proper footwear. We are very active during Game Time, so flip flops and backless shoes make it very difficult for your child to participate. We don’t want them to miss out on all the fun. Thank you!
